1. Do I need a referral from a doctor to see a counsellor?
No. You do not need a referral to access counselling at Sanara. You can book directly through our website or by contacting us.
2. Is counselling covered by my insurance?
Many extended health benefits plans cover counselling provided by a Registered or Canadian Certified Counsellor. Please check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage. We will provide you with receipts for reimbursement.
3. What if I don't know what to talk about?
That is completely normal. Your counsellor will guide the conversation, especially in early sessions. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin.
4. Can I bring a family member or support person to my session?
With advance notice, a support person may attend part of an individual session if it would be helpful. Couples and family sessions are specifically designed for multiple participants.
5. What if I want to incorporate my faith into counselling?
Faith-based counselling is available for clients who wish to integrate spiritual perspectives into their healing. This is always optional and client-directed — it will never be assumed or imposed.
6. How long will I need counselling?
The length of counselling varies depending on your goals, your concerns, and your pace. Some clients find benefit in 4–8 sessions; others engage in longer-term work. You and your counsellor will discuss this together and regularly review your progress.
